Sigulda sits on the rim of the Gauja river valley, the heart of Gauja National Park, Latvia’s oldest. The road from Riga takes about an hour, and the valley with its red sandstone cliffs and forests is at its best in autumn.
Turaida Castle stands on a hill above the river. It was founded in the 13th century by the Archbishop of Riga, its round red-brick tower was added later, and the grounds are now a museum reserve with the castle, a small wooden church and a sculpture garden.
Below the castle is Gūtmaņa Cave, the largest cave in the Baltic states, its sandstone walls covered with names carved by visitors over several centuries. In Sigulda itself you can add:
- the cable car across the Gauja valley;
- the bobsleigh and luge track;
- the ruins of Sigulda medieval castle next to the New Castle.
You choose what to see and how long to stay. The driver waits and brings you back to your address in Riga within five hours.

How much does the Sigulda & Turaida trip cost?
Prices are per vehicle, not per person: Standard Car (Volvo V60 or Mercedes-Benz E-Class, 3 passengers) from €200, Standard Van (Opel Zafira Life, 7 passengers) from €250 and Premium Van (Mercedes-Benz V-Class, 6 passengers) from €350.
Where does the driver pick us up?
At the address you enter when booking - a hotel, an apartment or the airport - and you are brought back there unless you choose a different drop-off. If you are picked up at the airport, add your flight number and the driver follows your landing time.
How many people can travel?
Passengers per vehicle: Standard Car 3, Standard Van 7, Premium Van 6. Bigger groups book more than one vehicle - the booking form works out how many. For up to 19 passengers in one vehicle, ask for the Large Van (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter): its price is on request and it needs at least 3 days’ notice.
How do I pay?
Online by card when you book, through Stripe’s secure checkout. Companies can add their company name and VAT number for the invoice.
Do we need tickets for Turaida and the cable car?
Turaida Museum Reserve and the cable car have their own entrance tickets, bought on site. They are not included in the trip price, which covers the car, the driver and the time.
Can we add Cēsis on the same day?
Yes, as the Cēsis & Sigulda trip, which starts at six hours. Cēsis is a further 40 minutes along the Gauja valley.
