Sigulda
The rim of the Gauja river valley, Latvia’s oldest national park: the cable car over the river, red sandstone cliffs and the bobsleigh track.
A door-to-door transfer to Estonia’s university city, with a stop in Sigulda or at Turaida Castle on the way.
From €387 per vehicle including one sightseeing stop
The quickest road from Riga to Tartu is not along the coast but inland. It runs north-east through Gauja National Park, past Valmiera, and crosses into Estonia at Valka and Valga, a single town split by the border. The distance is 245 km, about 3 h 20 min of driving.
The first hour is the best part of the route. Sigulda sits on the rim of the Gauja river valley, the heart of Latvia’s oldest national park. From there you can visit:
Allow 1.5-2 hours for Sigulda and Turaida together.
Tartu is Estonia’s second city and its intellectual centre. The university was founded in 1632 under the Swedish king Gustav II Adolf. The Town Hall Square, with its Kissing Students fountain, is a short walk from most hotels. The driver drops you at your address, not at a bus station.
The trip runs in both directions at the same price.

A secret bunker built nine metres under a holiday home for the leaders of Soviet Latvia, kept exactly as it was. It can only be seen on a guided tour, so we book the time for you.

One of the best-preserved castles of the Livonian Order, once the seat of its Master. You climb the west tower by candle lantern, then walk the cobbled streets of the old town.
