When you need to move a group, such as colleagues to a conference, guests to a wedding or friends to a concert, you have two options: hire a minibus and drive it yourselves, or hire one with a driver. This guide covers how to choose between them, how many seats each vehicle has and what to ask before you book.
Drive yourselves or hire a driver?
A standard category B driving licence lets you drive a vehicle with no more than eight passenger seats. A larger minibus, such as the 19-seat Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, needs a driver with a category D licence.
If you drive yourselves, one person in the group spends the whole day looking after the vehicle, fuel and parking, and can’t enjoy the event with everyone else. With a driver, the whole group travels together, the vehicle waits at the door, and nobody has to think about where to park or who drives home in the evening.

For a group of more than 19 people, you can combine several vehicles, for example a Sprinter and a minibus.

For group transport, a vehicle with a driver is usually hired by the hour. AFA Transfer prices are for the whole vehicle with a driver, not per person:

What to ask before you book
- Is the price for the whole vehicle or per person, and does it include VAT?
- How many kilometres and how much waiting time are included?
- Can a company get an invoice with VAT?
- How far ahead do you need to book? With us, the Sprinter has to be booked at least 3 days in advance.
- Will there be enough room for luggage if the group is going to the airport?
- What happens if the event runs late and you need the vehicle for longer?
