Kaunas is Lithuania’s second-largest city, about 270 km south of Riga. There is no direct train, and the bus means a stop in a bus station at both ends. By private car the road via Bauska and Panevėžys takes about three and a half hours, from your address in Riga to your address in Kaunas.
Between the two world wars Kaunas was the capital of Lithuania, and the city was rebuilt in the modernist style of the time. In 2023 this interwar architecture was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. If you have time on arrival:
- the old town and Kaunas Castle where the Neris meets the Nemunas;
- the Town Hall, called the White Swan;
- Laisvės alėja, the long pedestrian boulevard of the new town.

How much is a private transfer from Riga to Kaunas?
Prices are per vehicle, not per person: Standard Car (Volvo V60 or Mercedes-Benz E-Class, 3 passengers) from €350, Standard Van (Opel Zafira Life, 7 passengers) from €450 and Premium Van (Mercedes-Benz V-Class, 6 passengers) from €600.
Can we travel from Kaunas to Riga instead?
Yes. The trip runs both ways at the same price - choose Riga → Kaunas or Kaunas → Riga when you book.
Where does the driver pick us up?
At the address you enter when booking - a hotel, an apartment or the airport - and the trip ends at the drop-off address you give in the other city. If you are picked up at the airport, add your flight number and the driver follows your landing time.
How many people can travel?
Passengers per vehicle: Standard Car 3, Standard Van 7, Premium Van 6. Bigger groups book more than one vehicle - the booking form works out how many. For up to 19 passengers in one vehicle, ask for the Large Van (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter): its price is on request and it needs at least 3 days’ notice.

Can we stop on the way?
Yes, for a coffee or a short leg-stretch whenever you like. If you want a longer sightseeing stop, for example at Rundāle Palace, write it in the booking form and we will add the time.
Do we need passports for Lithuania?
Latvia and Lithuania are in the Schengen area and there is usually no border check, but every passenger should carry a passport or ID card.
