Liepāja is Latvia’s third-largest city, on the open Baltic Sea about two and a half to three hours from Riga. Its nickname, “the city where the wind is born”, comes from a well-known Latvian song.
In the north of the city lies Karosta, built in the 1890s as a naval port for the Russian Empire and later a closed Soviet military town. Its best-known sights:
- St Nicholas Orthodox Naval Cathedral with its golden domes;
- the Northern Forts, concrete fortifications slowly sinking into the sea on the beach;
- the former military prison, now a museum.
In the city centre you will find the Great Amber concert hall, the seaside park and one of Latvia’s longest and widest beaches.
This is a long day, about eight hours, most of it with time on foot. Your driver waits and drives you home to your address in Riga.

How much does the Liepāja day trip cost?
Prices are per vehicle, not per person: Standard Car (Volvo V60 or Mercedes-Benz E-Class, 3 passengers) from €300, Standard Van (Opel Zafira Life, 7 passengers) from €350 and Premium Van (Mercedes-Benz V-Class, 6 passengers) from €500.
Where does the driver pick us up?
At the address you enter when booking - a hotel, an apartment or the airport - and you are brought back there unless you choose a different drop-off. If you are picked up at the airport, add your flight number and the driver follows your landing time.
How many people can travel?
Passengers per vehicle: Standard Car 3, Standard Van 7, Premium Van 6. Bigger groups book more than one vehicle - the booking form works out how many. For up to 19 passengers in one vehicle, ask for the Large Van (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter): its price is on request and it needs at least 3 days’ notice.
How do I pay?
Online by card when you book, through Stripe’s secure checkout. Companies can add their company name and VAT number for the invoice.
Is eight hours enough for Liepāja?
Yes, for the main sights: about five hours of driving there and back and three hours in the city. If you would like more time, add hours in the booking form or stay overnight and book the way back separately.
Can we visit Kuldīga on the same day?
It is possible, as Kuldīga is on the way, but the day becomes very long. Most people choose one of them, or ask us for a custom day.
