Kuldīga lies in Courland, about two hours west of Riga. In 2023 its old town and the valley of the Venta river were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, and it is one of the most charming small towns in the Baltics.
The Venta Rapid is the widest waterfall in Europe, more than 240 metres across but only around two metres high. In spring you can see fish leaping up it on their way upstream. Next to it, a long red-brick bridge from 1874 crosses the river.
The old town is made of wooden houses with tiled roofs, and the little Alekšupīte stream runs right between them, with its own small waterfall. A good plan for the day:
- the Venta Rapid and the brick bridge;
- a walk along the Alekšupīte through the old town;
- lunch on Liepājas iela, the main street.
Your driver waits in Kuldīga and brings you back to your address in Riga. The whole trip takes about seven hours.

How much does the Kuldīga day trip cost?
Prices are per vehicle, not per person: Standard Car (Volvo V60 or Mercedes-Benz E-Class, 3 passengers) from €300, Standard Van (Opel Zafira Life, 7 passengers) from €350 and Premium Van (Mercedes-Benz V-Class, 6 passengers) from €450.
Where does the driver pick us up?
At the address you enter when booking - a hotel, an apartment or the airport - and you are brought back there unless you choose a different drop-off. If you are picked up at the airport, add your flight number and the driver follows your landing time.
How many people can travel?
Passengers per vehicle: Standard Car 3, Standard Van 7, Premium Van 6. Bigger groups book more than one vehicle - the booking form works out how many. For up to 19 passengers in one vehicle, ask for the Large Van (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter): its price is on request and it needs at least 3 days’ notice.
How do I pay?
Online by card when you book, through Stripe’s secure checkout. Companies can add their company name and VAT number for the invoice.
When is the waterfall best?
In spring the water is high and the fish jump; in summer you can wade across the top of the rapid in shallow water. In autumn the river valley turns gold. Kuldīga is worth a visit all year.
Can we add a stop on the way?
Yes. Tell us in the booking form, for example a lunch stop or a short walk in Kandava. Extra time is added at the hourly rate.
